Forward Healthcare is proud to operate in hospitals and hospital groups that are accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Learn more about the AASM, and why its accreditations are so highly valued in the field.

What Is AASM?

Since 1975, the AASM has functioned as the sole professional society of physicians, scientists, and sleep centers. This makes it an essential voice for providing information about sleep disorders.

The AASM is patient-centered and evidence-based, always endeavoring to ensure that professionals are prepared to test, diagnose, and treat patients. They have extensive professional development programs, clinical resources, and accreditations.

What Accreditation Means

The AASM accreditation is the gold standard in sleep medicine. In order to become accredited, sleep labs need to be inspected and evaluated on a variety of different standards, including:

  • HIPAA Compliance
  • Personnel
  • Patient Policies
  • Facility and Equipment
  • Policies and Procedures
  • Data Acquisition, Scoring and Reporting
  • Patient Evaluation and Care
  • Patient Records
  • Emergency Procedures
  • Quality Assurance
  • Safety
  • Patient’s Rights

Accreditations last for five years, by which time facilities must get reaccredited.

We have experience running programs that meet AASM accreditation requirements. We’re prepared to build or manage your sleep program so that it offers the highest quality of care to patients.

If you’re interested in HST, it’s useful to note that Peripheral Arterial Tonometry (PAT®) technology has been approved by the AASM. This technology is used as part of both the WatchPAT® One and the WatchPAT® 300 devices.
